There are two main reasons for making this book. First, to showcase a few of the thesis books that I designed between 2010 and 2011—a pseudo-portfolio of the book design skills that I possess within a short production schedule dictated by strict time restraints and face-to-face collaboration with each artist. Second, as a valuable resource of visual art and theoretical writing from an intense and seminal period in each artists' lives. The thesis, as it functions at Cranbrook Academy of Art, is at the crux of the finalization of self discovery that happens while cultivating an independent studio practice in one of ten concentrations at Cranbrook—in this case: 3D Design, Fiber, Photography, Print Media, and Sculpture. The writing and work contained between these pages is a glimpse at a quality and diverse group of artists, designers, and writers whose main commonality is the time they spent at Cranbrook.
